Fowler's Alabama Battery

1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery G

The Premier American Civil War Artillery Re-Enacting Group.

Alabama Symphony Orchestra

On Saturday, June 12, 2004, Fowler's Battery had the opportunity to do something rather unique.  Along with Cherokee Artillery, Jeff Davis Artillery, 12th Georgia Artillery, and the Alabama Militia, we assembled 10 cannons at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama, to perform Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.  This event was truly "living history", as it was the first time the 1812 has ever been performed in the Southeast using smooth bore artillery pieces fired by cannoneers using lanyards as Tchaikovsky originally composed the piece in 1863.  None of us really knew what to expect or how it would sound, but it was a truly magical moment for all of us participating as it came off without a hitch.  Many thanks go to the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Manager Terri Johnson, the Arts Council of Anniston, and the thousand plus people in attendance.

If anyone has more pictures of this event, please send them to southpawman@troycable.net so I can add them to this gallery.

Thank you!
